We finally arrived at the Arctic Ocean! We came all the way here by land – because the flight would be hundreds of dollars. We hitchhiked all the way from Hope to here except for the distance between Prince George and Kitwanga (around 700 km). We are now at the town called Tuktoyatuk in the Northwest Territory, and this is where they call The End of the Road! I can’t believe we actually made it this far. We accomplished our goal this summer!
How remote is this place? It’s a bit more than 4000 km from Abbotsford to Tuktoyaktuk, and the last 900 km, the so called Dempster Highway, is all gravel road. This is the only way to the Arctic Ocean by land. Everyone is advised to drive slow on this road, especially when it’s rainy and wet. The ground actually gets extra soft when it’s wet here because of the type of soil and it slides extra easily. The whole Dempster Highway is all really dusty and muddy. The distance between towns is far so we always stock up on granola bars.
Tonight we are camping in the basement of a B&B in Tuktoyaktuk. Nothing fancy but we are just happy to be out of the wind and cold outside!

Our campsite tonight.
