這次搭便車的經驗很特別，不僅三天搭了同一台，而且搭的車還是小巴遊覽車！這次真的很幸運，因為在丹特公路上人煙稀少，搭不到車就要在野外紮營，其實我是有點擔心和野生動物近距離的邂逅的。
This was such a special hitchhiking experience. This family picked us up and we went with them for 3 days! In a mini tour bus! With their personal tour guide! We really lucked out because there were so few people traveling on the Dempster Highway. If we got stuck and had to camp, I would be pretty worried about having close encounters with wild animals.
照片最左邊是旅遊公司的老闆，他右邊兩位年紀比較大的男女是夫妻，也是他們右邊這位年紀較輕的男生的爸媽。他們一路把我們從加拿大西北領地的Fort McPherson載到育空領地的Whitehorse，總共約1040公里，直接開不停的話要花約15.5小時，但是他們很大方地邀請我們跟他們一起花三天時間，慢慢欣賞丹特公路沿路的風景。我們一路上跟著他們的導遊學了好多丹特公路上的歷史、地質環境和重要人物，這家人不僅大方地跟我們分享車上的點心，還邀請我們一起共進晚餐(還不好意思讓他們破費了！)，其中一個晚上因為他們怕我們在外面露營會冷，剛好他們的訂房有多出來的空間，他們還邀請我們和他們一起睡旅館！
The man on the most left of the picture is the tour guide. The people on his left are a family. They took us from Fort McPherson, NWT, all the way to Whitehorse, Yukon, a total of around 1040 km. It would have taken 15.5 hours to drive directly, but they invited us to join their private tour for 3 days. We learned a lot about the geology, history, and important figures of the Dempster Highway. This family was incredibly generous. Not only did they share a bunch of food with us in the car, but they also invited us for eating dinner with them. When they found out that they had a spare bed in their hotel reservation one night, they offered it to us so we didn’t have to camp outside in the cold!
媽媽是半退休的法官，爸爸在退休前是非營利組織的管理層，他們的兒子是在玩Bitcoin交易的，而這車的導遊原生挪威，在70年代移民到加拿大。我們是他們第一個載過的搭便車的人，一上車之後媽媽就跟我們說他這個兒子不久前才從加拿大東邊搭便車一路到美國加州，我們想應該是他們的兒子說服大家載我們一程的吧！
The mom was a part-time judge, and the dad was retired from the management of a non-profit organization. Their son did mining Bitcoins for a living. The tour guide was born in Norway and immigrated to Canada in the 70s. We were their first ever hichhikers they picked up in their lives! As soon as we got into the mini bus, the mom told us that their son just had a grand hitchhiking trip from the eastern part of Canada to California, USA! I could hear that she was kind of proud of him. I was guessing the son played a big part in them making a final decision to pick us up!
我永遠都不會忘記他們一停下來時，已經等到慌的我已經決定一定要上這台車。門一開，我馬上說：「謝謝你們！」導遊馬上回答：「是後面這家人的決定，要謝就謝謝他們吧！」
I’d never forget the conversation we had when they first stopped. When the door opened, I said immediately, “Thank you guys so much!” I really was hoping they could pick us up. The tour guide replied, “It’s their decision,” pointing at the family behind him, “so you should thank them.”
然後爸爸就笑笑地開口了：「我們還沒有完全決定要載你們一程，你們先回答幾個問題吧。」我們不太清楚他是不是在開玩笑，但是車上其他人都沒有說話，所以我們就乖乖地給問了。他問了我們是哪裡人、在這個地方等之前去了哪裡、怎麼會選擇搭便車。可能媽媽看不下去了，所以就直接打斷他，跟我們說：「好啦！上車吧！」
Then the dad started to speak, with a big smile on his face, “We haven’t decided to give you a ride. You have to answer some questions first.” We really couldn’t tell if he was joking or not, so we just went with the flow. He asked us where we were from, where we have been, and why we chose to hitchhike. The mom probably didn’t want us to be grilled anymore so she just said, “Alright, get into the car!”
離開之前我們和他們交換聯絡方式，他們邀請我們搭便車經過他們的城市的時候可以住他們家，我麻吉還真的有去呢！
Before we parted, we exchanged contacts. They invited us to stop by their city on our hitchhiking trip. Evan was so lucky to have actually visited them in their city!
